Physical vs Chemical Sunscreen

There are two general types of sunscreens, physical and chemical ones. Physical sunscreens protect your skin from the sun by deflecting or blocking the sun's rays whereas chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the sun's rays. Some chemical filters can scatter sun rays, but still mostly just absorb them.

This new research by the EWG reveals that the chemicals commonly used in sunscreen are endocrine disruptors, estrogenic and may interfere with thyroid and other hormone processes in the body.

The EWG warns against using oxybenzone, especially on children or pregnant/breastfeeding women.

Many sunscreens also contain methylisothiazolinone, which American Contact Dermatitis Society named as its “allergen of the year”

Homemade Sunscreen Ingredients

*This is a natural recipe and has not been tested by a regulatory organization for exact SPF.  Therefore I won't be able to make any claims or even guesses on  SPF. Always use caution when spending extended periods of time under the sun.

Homemade Sunscreen Ingredients

• 1/2 cup coconut oil (natural SPF 2-8)
• 1/4 cup beeswax
• 2 Tablespoons Non-nano Zinc Oxide 
• Up to 1 teaspoon Red Raspberry Seed Oil (SPF 28-50)
• Up to 1 teaspoon Carrot Seed Oil (SPF 38-40)
• 2 tablespoons Shea Butter (natural SPF 3-6)
• Optional: Essential Oils or Vanilla Extract

Homemade Sunscreen Instructions

1. Combine ingredients except zinc oxide in a glass jar. 
2. Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and place over medium heat.
3. Put a lid on the jar loosely and place in the pan with the water.
4. As the water heats, the ingredients in the jar will start to melt. Shake or stir occasionally to incorporate. When all ingredients are completely melted, add the zinc oxide, stir in well and pour into whatever jar or tin you will use for storage.
5. Stir a few times as it cools to make sure zinc oxide is incorporated.
6. Store at room temperature

And after that I couldn't really see any further improvement. At 30ml , it merely lasted a month. I guess it is too expensive for me to repurchase with little result.

Meso White Booster - 100ml

This is another wonderful product from Dermedics. At first, I did not see any result. I thought it was a waste of money but i continue to give it more time for it to work. By the third week, my skin is more radiant n glowing and my friends noticed it too. my scars faded quite a bit. This serum is not exactly cheap but still reasonably priced for a large quantity at 100ml and calculated to $67.30 for 30ml.

 Dermedics products ingredients are also backed by clinical studies .

Pros: Thin water-based liquid, fast absorbing, no artificial fragrance, truly made a difference in overall brightening, reasonably priced for 100ml

Cons: Does not have smaller bottle for first trial

Worst serum ever, clogged my pores and causes breakouts on my 2nd day of application. Not recommended for acne-prone skin.

Pros: Haven't use enough to notice any result

Cons: Causes outbreaks for acne-prone skin

Capture Totale One Essential - 30ml

The first thing I didn't like about this product is the smell. It smelt very perfume-like, It absorbs really fast however it does not feel moisturising. I haven't seen any improvement also.

Pros: -

Cons - Too expensive and no visible result. Smells artificial .
